Beach/Restaurants

From the residence you can reach the mile-long sandy beach (Playa De La Duquesa – Playa de la Chullera) within about a half-mile (+- 15 minutes walk) via the footbridge over the A7, where Chiringuito Manilva Beach is located, where you can enjoy every day between 11 am and 11 pm delicious food and the necessary thirst quenchers.

One mile from the residence you will find 2 more restaurants: El Estribo Parrilla (Argentine specialties) and San Rafael (Spanish cuisine).

A little further on the beach you will find Romeo’s Beach (pizza), within one and a half mile there are several bars and restaurants around El Castillo de la Duquesa, and 2 miles away is the cozy marina Puerto Deportivo De La Duquesa with even more dining options and drinking establishments, including the QG Belgian Beers & Brasserie where you can enjoy various Belgian beers and dishes.

All these bars and restaurants can also be reached on foot via the beautiful (and illuminated at night) promenade that is located between the buildings and the beach.

Supermarkets

The nearest supermarkets are Supermercados Dia and Eroski (Autovía A7, PK 142, urbanización Los Hidalgos, 29692 Manilva) located within one mile from the residence.

Other supermarkets can be found in San Luis de Sabinillas (see also ‘Nearby’ below): Mercadona, Carrefour Express, Lidl, …

Nearby

San Luis de Sabinillas, about 2 miles away, a typical coastal village that is mainly frequented by Spanish tourists. There are several supermarkets, shops and dozens of bars and restaurants here.
Estepona, 10 miles away (+- 15 min. by car), beautiful coastal city with a very pleasant old town where it is fantastic to stroll in the small walking streets and enjoy the various tapas and wine bars. There is also an extensive marina with many bars and restaurants.
Marbella, 30 miles away (+- 35 min. by car), the tourist center of the Costa Del Sol, including the fashionable Puerto Banus and the picturesque old city center where it is always wonderful to stay. In Lekune Bar you can enjoy the best tapas on the Costa del Sol!
Sotogrande Puerto, 6 miles away (+- 10 min. by car), beautiful large marina with many nice bars and restaurants. Sotogrande is best known for the sport of Polo. Sotogrande has one of the most beautiful sandy beaches on the Costa del Sol!
Gibraltar, 22 miles away (+- 40 minutes by car), British Overseas Territory with the famous barbary macaques on the Rock of Gibraltar.
Casares / Jimena De La Frontera / Gaucin / Genalguacil+Benarraba, respectively. +- 0h30 / 0h40 / 0h40 / 1h10 by car from the residence, typical Andalusian villages in the hilly interior where you can take beautiful walks. Routes are available on request, as well as walks starting from the residence.
The Los Alcornocales, Sierra de Grazalema and Sierra de las Nieves national parks are easily accessible by car from the residence.
Ronda, about 50 miles away (+- 1h15 by car), where the river Guadalevín splits the town in two through a deep gorge.
The Andalusian art cities of Granada (Alhambra!), Cordoba and Seville (Alcazar!) are 125-155 miles away (maximum 2h30 by car).

Golf courses

Within a radius of 10 miles from the residence there are no fewer than 8 golf courses, of which La Duquesa Golf Country Club is the closest, one and a half mile away.

Airports

Malaga, +- 60 miles (+- 1h05 by car to the residence), daily flights to and from Brussels (SN Brussels Airlines and TUI fly). Tui fly also flies from Ostend and Antwerp. Transavia, Vueling and Ryanair also provide flights to Malaga from Belgium. From Lille you can fly to Malaga on Thursdays with Volotea during the summer period.
Gibraltar, less than 20 miles (+- 0h35 by car to the residence).

Car rental

Wide range at Malaga and Gibraltar Airport. With Budget (Avis group) we have the best experience.

The A-7 is free and runs mainly along the coast, the AP-7 motorway is partly toll and runs a bit more inland. On the AP-7 road signs this is clearly indicated with ‘peaje/toll’.

Public transport

Public transport in this region is rather limited and reservations are required.

There is a bus stop along the A7 at a half mile walking distance from the residence.

By bus, it takes 2 to 3 hours between Malaga airport and the bus stop along the A7, depending on the time of day. A ticket Malaga airport – Manilva costs €20 to €25 per person.

Due to its proximity to the sea, the temperature in this region is much lower than in the Andalusian interior.
